Dr Nicholas Sgrignoli, MD

I’m Dr. Nicholas Sgrignoli, an Assistant Attending Physician at the Hospital for Special Surgery, specializing in sports medicine. My passion lies in helping patients of all ages, particularly young athletes, recover from injuries and return to their active lifestyles. I emphasize non-surgical treatment options, managing everything from acute injuries and fractures to chronic overuse conditions and arthritis. I earned my medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine and completed my Family Medicine Residency at Wake Forest Baptist Health, where I developed a strong interest in sports medicine. To further specialize, I pursued a fellowship at UC San Diego Health, where I gained extensive experience as a team physician for collegiate and professional athletes across various sports, including soccer, basketball, rugby, and lacrosse. I’ve also provided medical coverage for professional events like Kerri Walsh Jennings’ P1440 volleyball tournament and the San Diego Seals indoor lacrosse games. Beyond my clinical practice, I have a deep appreciation for sports, including volleyball, soccer, Gaelic football, and snowboarding. My firsthand experience with these activities enhances my understanding of sports-related injuries, particularly those associated with skiing and snowboarding. With a strong commitment to helping athletes and active individuals recover and perform at their best, I integrate advanced treatment techniques such as ultrasound-guided joint and soft tissue injections and non-operative fracture care.
